1. Goal
Korea has very rapidly developed both economically and politically since 1960, and it is in the transitional stage of moving up toward a fully developed country. We, law professionals such as lawyers and law professors who are working in this era, have the following mission: We should try to contribute to the transformation of our laws and legal systems according to the global standard. Additionally, we should try to help neighboring countries to develop their laws and legal systems by exchanging our experience and cooperating with lawyers in those countries. To fulfill these objectives efficiently, we have established the Center for Asian Law.
2. Vision
A. The Center for Asian Law will contribute to promoting mutual exchange and cooperation in Asian countries and
     will work toward co-existence and prosperity with our neighboring countries.

B. The Center for Asian Law will contribute to harmonizing legal systems in Asia and creating the basis of the legal
     system needed for establishing an Asian economic community.
3. Major Activities
A. Research and comparative study on the laws and legal systems, as well as the cultures,
    of Asian countries.
- We will research and study comparatively laws and ordinances as well as cultural backgrounds in Asian countries by classifying the countries according to the nation or cultural area.
- We will hold seminars or international symposium about various legal subjects with the purpose to exchange and share ideas and experiences, and to find solutions and alternative proposals.
- We will publish the results of our research or study, translated materials, legal commentary and a dictionary of comparative legal terminology.
B. Support for transforming laws and legal systems in transit countries
We will provide transit countries with materials, human resources, and financial assistance needed to transform the laws and legal systems of a planned economy under communism into that of a democracy with market economy.
C. Provide legal services that follow the activity of the international flow
We will gather and analyze the laws and ordinances, legal decisions, and information about culture and ways of thinking in neighboring countries, and then make a database of this information. Through this way, we will provide legal services or information to enterprises that are currently active in, or preparing to advance into, foreign markets.
D. Support and cooperate in the education of lawyers and young leaders
In order to support and cooperate in the education of lawyers and young leaders in neighboring countries, we will promote activities as listed below. We will work to :
- establish an educational institution necessary to educate lawyers,
- improve an education system and develop an education program
- exchange law professionals or students and found a scholarship
E. Promote exchange and cooperation between lawyers
In order to cope with the challenge of opening the legal market to the world, we will try to enhance the global appreciation and competitiveness of our lawyers, while promoting exchange and cooperation between lawyers in Asian countries.
F. Create a legal foundation necessary for establishing an Asian economic community
With these activities above, we will contribute to creating the legal and institutional foundations necessary for making up a cooperative Asian economic community.
4. Asia is in our hearts
The Center for Asian Law wants to support the development of Asian countries with the vision of economic development, rule of law, and democracy. Still, all of this work cannot be done by one person or one nation. Together, we must keep Asia in our hearts. Let's make a commitment to work toward the new vision of Asia.
